Infiniti released its second generation G35, the G37, in 2008. With its release, the G37 became the high end of the Infiniti G series. Both cars in the G series are considered luxury sports coupes (or sedans, depending on whether they come with two or four doors), and the G37 is equipped with a more powerful engine and higher-end options than the G35. - Both the G37 two-door coupe and the four-door sedan come in four trim levels: The Base model, the Journey, the S Sport and the X, in ascending order of their price.
- The base fuel economy for the G37 is 18 miles per gallon (mpg) for city driving, 26 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg combined. With its 20-gallon fuel tank, the car has an estimated range of 360 miles driving in the city, 520 on the highway and 420 miles of combined driving. While the car itself is classified as a midsize, its fuel economy rating is in the subcompact range.
- The G37 comes standard with a 3.7 liter, 330 horsepower, rear-wheel-drive V-6 engine. It is capable of producing 270 foot-pounds of torque with an engine speed of 5200 revolutions per minute (rpm). The G37 comes standard with a seven-speed shiftable automatic transmission, while a six-speed manual transmission is an option on the higher-end trims.
- The G37 itself has a length of 183.1 inches, a height of 54.8 inches, a width of 71.8 inches, a wheelbase of 112.2 inches and a gross weight of 4,656 pounds.
- The G37 has not been tested by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, but it comes standard with a depowered air bag, head air bag, stability control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, a passenger-side air bag, side air bags and traction control.
- Edmunds.com reviewed the G37's road handling favorably. The reviewer liked the way the car handled, its engine power and speed, and its braking. The downsides he noted were that the shiftable automatic transmission lacked some of the driver-aiding features when the manual function was engaged, and the shifting could leave you feeling like the car is suddenly lurching forward. The engine also makes a good deal of noise at its upper speed range.
