- The Subaru Impreza is an all-wheel drive sedan sold from the early 1990s through today. The 1996 model year featured an Impreza coupe, sedan and wagon, which all shared the same engine. The Impreza is one of Subaru's most well-known cars, and competes with other economical mid-sized sedans by carrying its key differentiators of full-time four wheel drive.
- Both the sedan and coupe versions of the Impreza share the same exterior dimensions. The all-wheel drive car has an overall curb weight of 2,600 lbs. Its total length measures out at 172.2 inches while its wheelbase measures 99.2 inches. It has a total width of 67.1 inches and a total height of 55.5 inches, which makes it a fairly nimble car. Its short wheelbase also contributes to the car's improved handling.
- The 1996 Impreza had two different engine options available. Both utilized a boxer, H design, which mounts the cylinders horizontally. The base model engine is a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine that generates 110 horsepower and 110 foot-pounds of torque. Its overall displacement is 1,820 cc and it has a bore and stroke of 3.46 inches and 2.95 inches, respectively. The larger engine offered is a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder engine that has a 2,212 cc displacement, 3.81-inch bore and 2.95-inch stroke. It generates 135 peak horsepower and 143 foot-pounds of torque. Both engines have a compression ratio of 9.5 to 1.
- The interior of the Subaru Impreza offers standard features such as roll-up windows and air conditioning. The coupe version of the Impreza offers front passengers 39.2 inches of headroom and rear passengers 36.7 inches of headroom. The amount of available legroom is 43.1 inches for front passengers and 32.5 inches of legroom for rear passengers. Surprisingly, the sedan and station wagon versions of the car have the same interior dimensions, despite the addition of two extra doors.
