How to Trailer a Power Boat

    • 1). Bring your boat to the ramp and tie it up at the dock if one is provided.

    • 2). Back your vehicle with the boat trailer firmly attached, down the boat ramp. Stop when the back half of the trailer is submerged, with enough water to float the boat above it.

    • 3). Place the vehicle in "park," and engage the emergency brake. Leave the vehicle running. Get out and go to your trailer.

    • 4). Pull the winch cable out about 4 to 5 feet and place the lead end in an easy-to-reach place.

    • 5). Float the boat over the trailer. Hook the winch lead to the ring on the front of the boat. Raise the outboard motor.

    • 6). Keeping the boat centered over the trailer, and aligned with any hull rollers, winch the boat up onto the trailer. Stop once the boat reaches the bow stop at the winch.

    • 7). Attach a safety chain to the same ring the winch lead is attached to.

    • 8). Get in the vehicle and slowly, while watching the boat in your mirrors, pull the boat out of the water. Stop at the top of the ramp to ensure the boat is resting in the proper position on the bunks or rollers. If it is not, back the boat into the water, recenter it and try again.

    • 9). Attach safety straps to the rear of the boat and trailer.
