- 1). Open Microsoft Word, pull down the File menu and click New. The New Document panel opens. Type the card or greeting card into the Search online for box and click Go. Scroll through the resulting templates and design themes. Click a link to see a preview of the card and click the Download button. The card opens in the Word workspace. Highlight placeholder text and replace it with your own greeting; change text font, size and color by using the text toolbar at the top of the screen.
- 2). Create a new Photoshop file by clicking File and New. Name the file MyCard and set your preferred dimensions, such as 6 inches by 4 inches for a photo greeting card. Select CMYK Color from the Mode menu and click White under the Contents section. Click OK and the blank card opens. Click the Type tool, which looks like a T on the Tools palette and select the card's text formatting from the toolbar at the top of the screen. Position your cursor at the bottom of the MyCard box and type in the greeting's sentiments, your family's name or other message. Click File and select Open, then browse to a location on your computer where you have a photo to use for the card. Double-click the file, which opens in the Photoshop workspace. Pull down the Select menu and click All. When you see the lines framing the photo, press Ctrl +C to copy it. Click back to the MyCard box and press Ctrl+V to paste in the photo. If it pastes in larger than the box or covers up the text, pull down the Edit menu, click Transform, click Scale and shrink the photo down into place.
- 3). Open Publisher and click Publications for Print. Click the Greeting Cards link and scroll through the theme subgroups. Double-click a card and it opens in the Publisher workspace. Click through the four pages at the bottom of the screen to get a feel for the card's placeholder text and images. Click your cursor onto any text box, which becomes highlighted. Type directly over the text to replace it with your own. Add more text boxes, such as for the recipient's name, by clicking the Text tool, which looks like an index card with an A on it, on the Tools palette on the left of the screen. Draw a text box, type the words and use the text toolbar at the top of the screen to change the font, size and color. Click the Color Schemes link in the Greeting Cards panel on the left side of the screen. Scroll through the color sets and double-click one; your card automatically updates with the new colors in the workspace.
