- 1). Open the hood of the Ford vehicle. If the vehicle was recently driven, allow the engine and sensors time to cool.
- 2). Locate the DPFE sensor. You must first remove the existing sensor before installing the replacement. The sensor is mounted behind the upper intake manifold. Look between the engine and the firewall; the sensor is a small black box with two hoses and a wire harness plugged into it.
- 3). Remove the two hoses from the side of the current sensor. Disconnect the wire harness; push in the two side tabs and pull the harness out. Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the sensor's screws. Lift the sensor off the mount.
- 4). Wipe the mount clean with a rag. This will ensure a clean connection for the new sensor.
- 5). Install the new DPFE sensor. Place the sensor on the mount. Secure the sensor with the two screws and tighten with the socket wrench. Plug the hoses into the new sensor. Connect the wire harness; the harness will click into place once secured. The sensor is now installed.
