- 1). Bake the twigs in an oven at around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. This prevents the furniture from warping as green twigs dry. You can also put the twigs someplace warm and sunny for a few days to help them dry out.
- 2). Trim the twigs with a craft knife. You want the twigs to be as straight and smooth as possible, with no smaller twigs, thorns or large knots protruding from the twigs.
- 3). Draw the plans for your furniture on a plain sheet of paper using a pencil and ruler. Use very dark lines for your final pattern and make the plans to-scale for your furniture. Draw all parts of the item you are making. For instance, if you are making a chair, draw the back, both sides with the arms, front and seat. You can use pictures of plans for full-sized furniture for help.
- 4). Put the plans under a sheet of wax paper. You should be able to see the plans fairly well through the wax paper.
- 5). Lay your twigs on the wax paper. Place the twigs so that they go over your pattern and trim the twigs so that they fit exactly into the pattern. This ensures that your twigs will replicate your pattern exactly, but removes the need for measuring.
- 6). Glue the twigs together while they are still on the wax paper to make parts for your furniture. Wipe away excess glue. The wax paper will make it easy to remove the furniture pieces from your work surface should glue accidentally leak to the back of the twigs. Wait for the glue to dry completely before continuing.
- 7). Glue the parts for your furniture together, creating a completed piece. Wait for the glue to dry. If you have trouble with the piece falling apart before the glue can dry, use rubber bands or small clamps to hold the pieces in place.
- 8). Decorate the furniture with raffia, decorative moss, stones or other natural materials. These are particularly useful for covering up any mistakes or any problems in a way that seems both attractive and purposeful.
