Daewoo Specs

    • Daewoo was birthed in 1967 in South Korea. In its heyday, the compact cars produced by Daewoo gained respect and became one of the top industries in South Korea. However, the company encountered some financial difficulties and went bankrupt in 1999. General Motors stepped in and formed GM Daewoo and now produces the compact cars with a new luxury model making its debut in 2011.

    2002 Lanos

    • The Lanos has met with some success, especially due to the purchase price and the fact that it gets 34 miles to the gallon of gas. The multi-point injection fuel system and a 12.7-gallon tank help carry the 2,527-pound car 430 miles on a single tank. The interior dimensions for headroom is 38.9 inches in the front and about 2 inches less in the back. Reviews on the car are mixed between the great gas mileage and the metal being so thin that a shopping cart could put a huge dent in it. There are three models for the Lanos--the Hatchback, Sedan and Sport Hatchback.

    2002 Nubira Wagon

    • This little station wagon is equipped with a straight four-cylinder engine that produces 31 miles to the gallon with a 13.7-gallon tank. Drivers report that the station wagon is comfortable to take long trips in and has good acceleration. The CD player kept skipping for another owner. In comfort, drivers scored the car with 10 out of 10 possible points and an overall score of 8.7 out of 10. The Nubira Sedan has the same specifications as the Wagon and was reported to be as comfortable as the Wagon.

    2002 Leganza

    • Fuel consumption in this Daewoo comes down to 28 miles to the gallon with its four-cylinder engine that has more horsepower than the Nubira and Lanos at 131. However, it does have a 15.9-gallon gas tank to compensate. The sedan model of the Leganza does not differ much from the CDX. Neither model came with a trailer hitch, so pulling was out of the question without spending the money to have one installed, which may involve welding support brackets to the frame to add a trailer ball.

    2011 Daewoo Alpheon

    • GM Daewoo adds something a little more exciting to the mix with its version of a luxury car. This model carries seven people comfortably even though it is still considered a compact car. GM based the Alpheon architecture on the same used with the Buick LaCrosse, which was among the top three favorites in the 2010 North American Car of the Year awards. The wheelbase is 111.7 inches, which is the same as Cadillac XTS, with a length of 196.6 inches. A step up from the four-cylinder engines of the past, the Alpheon is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 with a six-speed transmission.
