- Sell Your Car Online
Use an online auction website specifically for buying and selling cars. The most logical websites are AutoTrader.com (Auto Trader), KBB.com (Kelley Blue Book), and EdmundsCars.com (Edmunds Cars).
Post interior and exterior photographs of the car, including images of the engine to attract potential buyers. In addition to a photographic record of the car, list current statistics including the mileage, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and accident history. At or below the Kelley Blue Book price is generally considered an "attractive offer." Always indicate if you are willing to negotiate.
By using an online auction website, you can target potential buyers and then negotiate one-on-one to reach the best deal. - Pay to Place a Local Ad
Use a local auto trade publication. For a fee, list the car in a local publication with a photograph of the vehicle and a short description. A buyer interested in purchasing from a local seller would be more likely to use a local auto trade publication as his first resource than a larger resource like the Web. Provide a contact number and ask potential buyers to contact you with an offer. If the purchase price is listed, indicate if you are willing to negotiate. You must pay a fee to list the vehicle and a new advertisement must be placed if the car does not immediately sell. Some advertisements run for seven to 14 days (i.e. two weekly editions) depending on the rate and advertisement package. - Park Your Car and Let it Sell Itself!
Use a Park & Sell service. For a fee (ranging from $100 to several hundred dollars depending on the company), you can enter into an agreement to park your car on a Park & Sell lot for a specified number of days or weeks. With an information sheet, buyers can view statistics about the vehicle and contact you with an offer to buy. Many Park & Sell companies offer assistance with title of transfer and bill of sale. Agree to a daily and weekly rate and then drive the car on the lot. Use a banner to indicate attractive features like, "Low Mileage," "New Paint" and "Good Condition."
Some Park & Sell companies offer different rates depending on the location of the vehicle on the lot. For a prime location (an area facing an entrance or main street), you may have to pay a higher rate; however, the visibility may be worth the added cost.
