• Stress incontinence occurs when the muscles that help support your bladder are weakened. As a result, urine leaks into your urethra during times of physical stress, such as when you are laughing or lifting something, resulting in incontinence.
  
  

Bladder Suspension

• According to the Mayo Clinic, during bladder suspension surgery, your doctor will put stitches in the tissue near your bladder neck, then attach them to your pubic bone. These stitches provide support for your bladder to prevent leakage.
  
  

Recovery from Surgery

• During your recovery from bladder suspension surgery, you may need to use a catheter to empty your bladder. If the catheter is too small, you could leak urine while using it.
  
  

Surgery Failure

• Bladder suspension surgery does not always cure stress incontinence. You could experience fewer incidents of bladder leakage, or the surgery may not help at all.
  
  

Considerations

• If you have stress incontinence combined with another cause of bladder leakage urge incontinence, then bladder suspension could remedy your stress incontinence while urge incontinence continues to cause urine leaks.
