- Plant liriope in full sunlight, partial shade or full shade. It produces the best flower spikes when grown in full sunlight or partial shade. Choose a planting location with well-draining soil. It can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions.
- Plant liriope along a flower bed's border, beside pathways or as a ground cover in a shady location. The plant spreads through stolons but is not aggressive. It is excellent at controlling soil erosion when grown on slopes or other locations because it forms a dense, mat-like root structure that can stabilize the soil.
- In areas with mild winters, the liriope plant will produce evergreen foliage but in areas with cold winters, the foliage often turns brown and dies to the ground. Divide liriope every few years. The plant easily establishes itself when transplanted at any time of year.
- Liriope is susceptible to the fungal infection anthracnose. The leaves develop brown spots. Mow the plant down and dispose of the leaves during the late winter months to treat the infection, according to Clemson University's website.
