- 1). Fill the bottom of your double boiler with water and set up your pans. Place the paraffin wax in the top of the double boiler and melt over medium heat. Wax is flammable if overheated, so keep a close eye on it. Peel the paper label from the brown and black crayons and add to the paraffin wax. When the wax and the crayons have melted, remove the pans from the heat. Stir in 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon for added texture and color and add as many drops of cinnamon oil as you need to achieve the scent you desire.
- 2). Lay out a sheet of wax paper on your work surface. When the wax, still in the pan, cools enough to form a skim over the top, use the hand mixer to beat the wax. Scrape the sides of the pan repeatedly with the mixing spoon and continue to beat until the wax is both foamy and liquid.
- 3). Hold the bottom of the votive candle and dip the top in the foamy wax. Submerge the votive candle at least halfway. Remove the candle, count to 10 and repeat. Repeat this process until you have built up the dark colored wax on the candle. With your fingers pull the wax off the wick. Hold the wick and dip on the other half of the votive candle, as you did with the top. Set the decorative primitive candle on it's bottom on the wax paper. Brush and drip more wax all over the candle using the paint brush. Allow the votive candle to cool.
- 4). Poor the melted wax onto the cookie sheet. Scruff up the wax with the paint brush. Lay the taper candle in the wax and roll using the paint brush as your guide. Pick up the taper candle by the wick and hold for a count of 10. Repeat by rolling the candle again until you have built up the dark colored wax on the candle. Set the decorative primitive taper candle on the wax paper to cool. Add more drips and goo with your brush, if desired.
