The Yamaha XJ 750 Maxim is a street cruiser motorcycle manufactured and sold from 1980 to 1985 by the Yamaha Motor Company Limited, a Japan-based motorized vehicle-producing company. The motorcycle was produced as a response to Honda's V45 Magna, a market leader in the 750-cc bikes category. With a top speed of 128 mph, the motorcycle was a precursor to modern sportbikes. - The Yamaha XJ 750 Maxim is equipped with a powerful 749-cc, four-stroke, four-cylinder, DOHC engine. The engine is cooled by air. It features a 65-mm bore, a 56.4-mm stroke and a 9.2:1 compression ratio. The engine delivers 86 horsepower, or 62.7 kilowatts, at 9,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 61.8 newton meters at 7,500 rpm. The bike has a five-speed transmission.
- The motorcycle comes with a 36-mm air assisted forks rear suspension with 136 mm of wheel travel, and a dual shocks spring preload and rebound damping adjustable rear suspension with a 98 mm wheel travel. The Yamaha XJ 750 Maxim also features two-disc front brakes and drum rear brakes. The bike is equipped with a 100/90-19 front tire and a 130/90-16 rear tire.
