- Purchasing roof coatings does not qualify you for any federal energy credits as of 2010, according to EnergyStar. Roof coatings, along with a new roof, however, do qualify for energy credits.
- Only metal roofs with certain pigments that reflect sunlight and asphalt roofs with special granules qualify for a federal energy credit, according to EnergyStar. Also, not all EnergyStar approved roofs qualify.
- EnergyStar suggests obtaining a Manufacturer Certification Statement with its roofing material. This certifies that the coating qualifies for a tax credit, which is worth 30 percent of the cost of the roofing material up to $1,500.
