- If you have not received your W-2 form for the previous tax year by January 31, contact your employer.
- If you still have not received your W-2 from an employer by February 14 and you have followed up with the employer, contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 for help.
- When you contact the IRS, you will be asked to provide your name, telephone number and complete address, as well as the same for your employer. The IRS representative will also need your Social Security number and your dates of employment with that company.
- The Internal Revenue Service will contact your employer to ask that your W-2 be sent to you. The IRS will also send you a Form 4852 in the meantime.
- This form acts as a substitute for W-2 and 1099-R forms that have not been received. If you do not receive your W-2 in time to file your taxes by the April 15 deadline, you can use Form 4852 instead.
- If you receive your W-2 after you've filed your taxes using Form 4852 and you find that need to make a correction, you must file Form 1040X to amend your return.
