- A wind turbine generates electricity by having coils of wire placed next to magnets and spinning either the coils or the magnets. It does not matter which are spun. The constantly changing magnetic field induces an electric current in the coils.
- To wind your own coils, find a tube to wrap them around. Tie a knot in one end of the wire for each coil, and wind each coil in the same direction, either clockwise or counterclockwise. Cover the coil in tape when it is wound to prevent it from unraveling when you remove the tube.
- Coils can be made in a wide variety of manners. Using nine coils with 325 turns each made out of 28 AWG magnet wire can produce up to 16 volts of electricity, enough to charge a storage battery, with the right wind speed and propellers.
