- 1). Sort your corks by size and make sure they are all the same height. If they are uneven use a ruler to measure the smallest cork and cut the rest of the corks to the same height with a knife.
- 2). Find an image of a fleur-de-lis that you like. There are many variations. Print out a picture or use pencil and paper to draw one the size you would like your final product to be.
- 3). Practice placing corks in the fleur-de-lis pattern using your drawing or printout as a template. Start with a single cork for the points and work from there. Place the corks upright like they would be in the wine bottle.
- 4). Begin gluing the corks together once you are happy with the placement. Heat up your hot glue gun and make sure to have extra glue sticks on hand. Set a glass of ice water next to you to immediately dip your fingers in if you get any hot glue on them.
- 5). Pick a starting point such as the top point of the fleur-de-lis and begin gluing. Spread a single line of glue along the side of the cork where it will meet the next cork. Let each glue point dry before moving to the next.
- 6). Step back periodically and look at your fleur-de-lis from a distance to make sure you are happy with the shape.
- 7). Once all the corks are connected and the glue is dry, use your newly created fleur-de-lis as a trivet, or attach a wall hanger and use as a bulletin board.
