- The PayScale Report states that as of August 2010, the greater the experience of music directors, the higher their salaries. Those with one to four years of work earn $17,379 to $35,466 annually, while those with 10 to 19 years receive $22,378 to $47,170.
- The type of employer affects pay. Music directors at colleges and universities earn the most, at $45,000 to $100,000, followed by those at schools and school districts, at $32,222 to $85,965. Those at fellowships make the least, at $14,000 to $38.000.
- The location of employment determines pay. Those in New York show the widest and highest range, at $29,500 to $73,000. Those in Chicago receive $19,653 to $45,781, while those in Atlanta earn $26,963 to $50,672.
