- Since its inception, ACHE has been a professional trade association representing professional hypnotists. The ACHE has certified over 9,000 hypnotists worldwide, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and professionals in the healing arts. Registration and administration of examinations to become certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE) are handled by ACHE Regional Examining Boards. ACHE offers two types of certifications: hypnotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist.
- ACHE certification as a hypnotist requires completion of at least 200 hours of study at an ACHE-approved and state-licensed hypnotherapist school. Applicants must pass a written examination and practical skills demonstration. Qualifying regional boards have the right to waive the examination process, if warranted.
- ACHE's other certification program, certified clinical hypnotherapist, requires completion of the prerequisites to qualification for hypnotherapist certification, plus an additional 100 hours of training at an ACHE-approved, state-licensed hypnosis school. Registration, administration of the examination, and two-year certification costs $175, as of November 2010.
