What Causes Hair Loss? - Know More

There are many people losing their hair without knowing the cause of this phenomenon. This affects confidence of majority of these especially when it happens at young age. There are many causes of hair loss and they may vary from person to person.  

They include the following:
  • Medication: There are some drugs which may cause hair loss. Such drugs include those taken by persons with ailments such as depression, hypertension, Parkinson's disease, gout, among others. They are known to impact on the follicle negatively. 
  • Age: Aging people with bad dietary history are likely to experience hair loss. This is because aging usually has baldness as its sign. Therefore, hair loss may start early to people with a history of unhealthy dietary.
  • Stress: Stress is known to be one of the leading causes of hair loss. This is because it causes hair follicles to enter into a phase known as telogen. At this phase, growth of hair stops completely. In addition, there may be damage and breakage of the existing hair leading to a more visible hair loss.
  • Menopause: Menopause results to changes in hormones in women. This may result to intense loss of hair in women.
  • Genetic composition: Some people inherit a trait for hair loss from their parents. This implies that genetic composition has great impact on the age at which an individual may lose hair.
  • Hormones: Some hormones are known to cause hair loss. Testosterone hormone in men is one of them. When this hormone is converted to DHT, it can reach the scalp. This may cause shrinking of the hair follicles. Subsequently, this may result to hair loss.
  • Vitamin deficiency: Low vitamin levels in the body are also another major cause of hair loss. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the meals that you take are rich in vitamins.
  • Vigorous rubbing of hair: Many people rub their hair vigorously after washing it. This will only weaken it and eventually lead to its damaging. On the contrary, you should loosen and wipe it gently after washing. Massaging your scalp with shampoo is also encouraged to prevent hair loss. This will help in removing dirt and improving circulation which may improve growth of your hair.
  • Use of Inorganic and alkaline shampooing formulations: These are known to weaken and damage the hair. Shampooing hair more than once in a day can also lead to hair loss as it weakens it.
  • Use of Chemicals: Some chemical used in treating hair are known to weaken it. These are harmful to the hair although they will give your hair the look that you want.
  • Keeping hair wet: Keeping your hair wet may lead to infection. Therefore, it is advisable that you dry your hair gently after swimming or even after washing it. It is also important that you avoid styling your hair when wet.
