Male Hair Loss and Treatment

Chances are pretty good if you are reading this you have fallen victim to male hair loss.
For men hair is part of our identity.
It gives us confidence and keeps us feeling young but when balding strikes things begin to change.
Our friends, coworkers and spouses start to look at us in a slightly different light and the checker at the local grocery store, all of the sudden starts calling you sir.
So why is this happening!   There are many factors that could be contributing or causing your recent follicle evacuation problem such as stress, prescription medications, poor nutrition, hair abuse, thyroid disease, diabetes, some type of autoimmune condition (alopecia areata) or maybe even a recent bout with high fever but chances are it is something different.
Chances are it is a stubborn condition known as male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia.
Some estimates have male hair loss linked to male pattern baldness as high as nine out ten.
Male pattern baldness is a hormone driven genetically linked condition that has a stranglehold over about 50 million men as we speak.
The main hormone involved is a testosterone derived hormone known as dihydrotestosterone or DHT which causes hair to become weaker and shorter.
It also interrupts the natural hair replacement cycle leading to more hair being lost than is being replaced.
The higher the DHT levels become the faster your march to the bald house will occur.
If you are wondering whether or not you have this condition let's take a look at how it presents itself.
In men, male pattern baldness usually begins at the forehead or on the top of the head toward the back.
Some men lose only some hair and have only a receding hair line or a small bald spot in the back.
Others especially men whose hair loss began at a young age, lose all of the hair on the top of the head but retain hair on the sides and back of the scalp.
Did I hear you say "Yes, that's me!"?   Now that we have determined that you in fact are one of the fifty million men who are struggling with male pattern baldness lets explore our treatment options.
If you have lost most or all of your hair then your options will be limited to hair transplant surgery, toupees, or waxing that bald done to perfection.
On the other hand if you have a minimal or moderate amount of balding then the prognosis is in fact very good for slowing or perhaps reversing the condition.
The two most obvious options are minoxidil (topical) and Propecia (internal).
Minoxidil is now available over the counter while Propecia still requires a prescription.
These products work very differently and you should check with your doctor to see which one would be the most effective for your unique situation.
Additionally, in recent years there have been a number of hair regrowth formulas which have effectively combined the power of DHT blocking herbs such as Saw Palmetto, hair growth vitamins such as B6 and biotin, and the hair regrowth and stimulation properties of minoxidil.
If you have been searching for an effective way to treat male pattern balding this is an affordable option worth considering.
