Natural Homemade House Cleaners for Bathtubs

All-Purpose Bathtub Cleaner

For everyday cleaning, an all-purpose cleaner will suffice. Make your own all-purpose bathtub cleaner by mixing 2 cups of hot water with 1 tablespoon of ammonia. Add 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent, and pour the mixture in a spray bottle. Squirt your entire tub liberally with the all-purpose cleaner. Wait five minutes, and wipe it down with a sponge. Rinse clean.

Abrasive Bathtub Cleaner

When you notice a film begin to build up around your bathtub, it is time to give it a scrub with an all-natural abrasive cleaner. Make a paste by mixing 1 cup of baking soda mixed with 1/3 cup of water. Smear the paste all around your bathtub with a sponge. Let it sit for 20 minutes to loosen the grime. Scrub the grime away and wash the tub clean with hot water.

Mold Prevention

After each shower, the bathtub is left wet. Water that is allowed to sit can eventually lead to problems with mold. This can be prevented by cleaning the bathtub once per week with a bleach solution. Combine 1 cup of hot water with 1 cup of bleach. Spray all around the bathtub, and let it sit for five to 10 minutes. Wipe with a sponge before rinsing clean.

Disinfectant-Deodorizing Spray

In between heavy cleanings, you may also want to disinfect or deodorize your bathtub. This can be done by creating a homemade spray. Pour 1 cup of white distilled vinegar in an empty spray bottle. Add 1 cup of warm water. Shake the spray bottle to combine the ingredients. Spray liberally in the bathtub. Wipe down with a washcloth, and rinse clean.
