Sporting

• These breeds of dog fall under this category because they're naturally alert and active. They're also known for their hunting skills and instincts in the water and woods. • Working dogs were bred for specific purposes such as pulling sleds or guarding property. These breeds of dogs are intelligent and can learn quickly. • The herding category was added in 1983 to the American Kennel Club's official list. These dogs were part of the working group and are able to control the movement of animals such as sheep. Herding breeds include the Australian cattle dog, Old English sheepdog, Cardigan Welsh corgi and Shetland sheepdog.
