- 1). Clean up your car. Wash the outside thoroughly and dry it with a towel so that there aren't any water spots. Clean the windows inside and out and use tire cleaner on the tires. Vacuum the inside and wipe down all the details. A clean car will show potential buyers that you take care of your vehicle. If you need to continue using your car while you try to sell it, wash it regularly on the off chance someone wants to see the car.
- 2). Write up a description of the car including the make, model, year, color and asking price. Don't forget to add contact information.
- 3). Contact the classified ads department of your newspaper. Submit the description as a "For Sale" ad.
- 4). Write up a simple "For Sale" sign to display in the window of the car. Use a pre-made sign or make your own on plain paper. There is no need to describe the vehicle, since everyone will be able to see it. You just need the words "For Sale," a contact number, and possibly the year and model of the car.
- 5). Log on to the Internet and sign up to use an online car sales site such as cars.com or carsdirect.com. Enter all information for your car and submit it. This will cover all your bases. The Internet will give you a wide area of buyers as well as those that prefer online shopping, while newspapers and a "For Sale" sign will give you the locals.
- 6). When you aren't driving the car, park it where there is a lot of traffic so that more people can see it. Once you find a buyer, take proper precautions so that you receive adequate funds before giving away the car. Transfer the title, provide a bill of sale and change the title registration.
