- 1). Locate the factory-installed trailer brake harness under the dash; it is usually taped either to the steering column or to the main wiring loom to the left of the steering column. The trailer brake harness consists of four wires -- blue, brown, green and yellow -- with a four-pin terminal multi-block on the end.
- 2). Route the harness from the electronic brake controller to the location of the factory-installed harness.
- 3). Align the two terminal multi-blocks so that the orientation tooth on one slots into the matched receiver on the other, then press them together. They are fully installed when the two sprung clips, one on either side, clip outward into the two matching keeps.
- 4). Use plastic zip ties to hold the connected harness up inside the dash, so that it cannot become a trip hazard in the driver's footwell.
- 5). Check that the correct fuses are installed in the dedicated fuse board. Consult your owner's manual to confirm the amperage required for your specific model truck; typically the fuse to the 12-volt power supply should be sized at 30-amps. The fuse to the electronic brake controller should be sized according to the instructions delivered with the unit.
