- 1). Ride for free. You don't have to pay for the transportation. In many places not only is the transportation fee-based, but it increases with gas prices. So don't bother to bring any change with you when you're using Chapel Hill public transportation.
- 2). Plan to take the bus on errands or other short outings. The transportation service does not go out farther than Chapel Hill town limits, so you will still have to spend money for gas for those trips, but you can reach every in-town destination, including all shopping centers and commercial zones, via bus. Pick-up points are conveniently spaced for everyone throughout the town, and changing buses is easy and comfortable, which is located either in elegant downtown Chapel Hill or at a small local shopping center.
- 3). Transport larger groups of people easily and comfortably. Whether friends on a social outing or business colleagues, group outings can be very difficult and expensive to manage with carpools. By using public transportation, you can fit many people into the same vehicle and all reach the same destination for no cost at the same time after a comfortable ride. All it takes is changing your thinking a little and planning for everyone to take short walk together down to nearby bus stop. Many people drive their cars to parking lots, then take a bus to work or class. But there is no reason not to take the bus the entire trip.
- 4). Get a bus schedule and quickly determine the routes and buses that work best for you and your next crosstown trip. Choosing the right connection will allow you to reduce waiting time. The entire city of Chapel Hill is broken down into different bus routes for your convenience. Each bus only covers a few stops so that you are not inconvenienced by having to wait between connections. Also, you can get off almost at the door at nearly anyplace in town.
- 5). Stop worrying about finding parking spaces and parking fines. Once you begin to use public transportation, you no longer have to spend time trying to find a parking space in crowded areas. Also your car won't get towed or ticketed because you accidentally parked in an illegal parking space or your car was left somewhere for too long. Obviously this reduces wear on your car and saves fuel costs.
- 6). Think about how you are making a contribution to the environment when you are using free public transportation. You will be doing your part to help ease the horrible pollution problems in our society, and you will feel good about yourself and your new mode of local transportation.
