The 2002 Acura 1.7 EL was marketed as a compact, entry-level car. The vehicle was introduced to Canadian consumers in 1996. Eventually, the Acura 1.7 EL was updated and the second generation of the vehicle debuted in 2001. The 2002 model saw an enhanced audio system. Production on the 1.7 EL ended in the 2004 to 2005 auto market. - The 2002 Acura 1.7 EL was originally known as the Honda Domani in Japan. When presented in Canada, it was called the Acura 1.6 EL. The 1.6 EL was a subcompact, intended as a replacement for the Acura Integra sedan. The vehicle received a makeover in 2001, acquiring a more powerful engine and additional luxurious extras. The upgraded model was renamed the Acura 1.7 EL.
- An AM/FM radio and a compact disc player came standard in the 2002 Acura 1.7 EL. Two tweeters were added to the six audio speakers present in the vehicle. Aftermarket audio parts from Honda can be installed with ease in the vehicle.
- The Acura 1.7 EL remained a top-seller in Canada from 1997 to 2003. During the first production year, 51 percent of Canadian car buyers purchased an Acura EL. In 2005, the EL line was retired in favor of the Acura CSX. Like the Acura 1.7 EL, the CSX is only available in Canada.
