Beginners ask the best questions about how to submit articles. You are looking at this field with fresh eyes, so you're bound to come up with some excellent questions about how article submissions are done.
I received these questions from a beginner recently, and I thought you might find the answers useful. Let's go through his questions one by one:
1 - What topics should I write about?
Write about topics related to the general theme of your website. All of your articles should be teaching oriented--teaching your readers how to do something related to your niche, or teaching them a specific concept in regard to your field.
Here are some basic topics that you can cover to get started:
=> Give a general overview of your niche. Be careful not to talk about your business in the article--the article should not be about you. If you're a dentist, talk about the importance of having strong teeth and gums and how that affects someone's life. If you're a virtual assistant, talk about how virtual assistants help people and how they work.
=> Go in depth on some very specific basic topics surrounding your niche. For example, if you're a personal chef, talk about the basic equipment that a home cook would need. Most subjects will have some foundational information that can be covered in a general overview and then expanded upon in a more in depth article.
=> Think of common areas of confusion or mistakes and write an article (or several) where you talk about the common mistakes and then show how to correct them.
=> Think about some "Top Tips" that you can offer and formulate into a Top 10 list.
=> Think about some things that you can teach your readers how to do. This would be a "How To" type of article. Get used to writing these--"How To" articles are the article marketer's bread and butter.
=> Give a lot of attention to beginners. It's fine to write more advanced articles now and then, but remember that most of your readers will be newbies.
2 - What should I do with my article after I've written it?
There are all sorts of website owners who are searching for quality content that they are allowed to reprint for free on their sites. A lot of website owners search article directories to find the type of content that would suit their site.
If you're submitting articles manually, start off by submitting your article to an article directory.
3 - Should I post the free reprint article on my blog?
Great question! I know what you're thinking--you've just gone to the effort of writing a great piece of content, and you want to get the most use out of it. You are going down the right path with that thought pattern, but you should not publish the same article that you submit to the directories on your blog.
Instead, try to keep the information on your own site unique. This will help your website appear more valuable in Google's eyes, as Google values web pages that offer unique information.
You can definitely combine you article marketing efforts with your blog though--my strategy is to write posts for my blog one month, and then re-write the posts and submit them as free reprint articles the next month. That way you get multiple uses out of the same piece of content, but you're still keeping the content on your own site unique.
As you're getting started with article marketing, you will likely have a lot of questions. This is great because your steady stream of questions means that you're constantly learning. Don't be afraid to ask anything that you're wondering about--every question is a good one.
