- The Toyota hybrid system was developed in 1995 and the Prius made its U.S. debut in 2000. Hybrid technology improves fuel efficiency, reduces emissions and offers excellent driving performance. In 2010, Toyota decreased the Prius' carbon footprint further with the introduction of the third generation Prius, which features parts made from plant-derived carbon-neutral plastics that emit less CO2 than petroleum based plastics.
- The 2010 Toyota Prius averages 51 mpg on the freeway and 48 mpg in the city. All models come with electronic ignition, electric motors, gasoline engine and electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.
- Standard exterior features on most 2010 Prius models include projector-beam halogen headlamps; LED tail lamps; heated, foldable power outside mirrors; variable front intermittent wipers; electric rear window defogger; intermittent rear window wiper; UV reduction windshield; aerodynamic spoiler; and a roof-mounted XM Satellite Radio antenna. Optional features include a power tilt/slide moon roof, solar powered ventilation system and a remote air conditioning system.
- A CFC-free automatic climate control with an electric compressor, dust and pollen filtration capabilities, a humidity sensor and an air filter is a standard interior feature on all 2010 Prius models. Other standard interior features include power windows; power automatic door locks with an anti-lockout feature; smart key system; remote illuminated keyless entry; touch tracer display; electronic shift lever; and eco/power and EV modes.
Interior features in the front compartment include six-way adjustable driver's seat and four-way adjustable passenger seat; adjustable head rests; seatback pockets; an auxiliary audio jack; tilt/telescopic adjustable steering wheel with audio, climate and multi-information display controls; cruise control; central instrument display; dual sun visors; illuminated vanity mirrors; two cup holders; center console with armrest and storage compartment; and a two-compartment glove box. The rear seating area includes a 60/40 split fold-down rear bench seat with headrests and two rear cup holders. - Some models also feature options like auto-dimming rearview mirrors; intelligent parking assist; dynamic radar cruise control; lane keep assist; steering wheel mounted Bluetooth hands-free phone-calling controls; leather-trimmed heated seats; and a voice-activated touch-screen DVD navigation system with AM/FM/MP3 4-disc CD changer, USB port and eight speakers.
- All 2010 models come with the Star Safety System, which includes enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Air bags, a direct tire pressure monitoring system, front and rear energy-absorbing crumple zones, side-impact door beams, three-point seatbelts for the driver and all passengers, adjustable seat belt anchors in the front seat, LATCH child safety seat system, rear-door child protective locks and a spare tire are also included on all 2010 models.
- Exterior color choices are blue ribbon metallic, winter gray metallic, blizzard pearl, classic silver metallic, black, Barcelona red metallic and sandy beach metallic. Interior color choices are bisque, dark grey and misty grey. Prius II and III feature fabric interiors while Pruis IV and V are available in leather.
