I am lucky that I don't get too many pimples, but when I do I simply can't help but want to pop them! Technically, you are not supposed to pop pimples at all.
But most of us know that when it comes to skin care, it's almost impossible to let a pimple fester unchecked.
So, while in a lot of cases it is best to let a pimple heal on its own to avoid scarring, when done correctly, popping a pimple can be beneficial and can even speed the recovery time.
I find it's best to only pop pimples at night, before I go to bed when I can give my skin a nice chunk of time to recover.
Once the pimple is good and ready, my favorite method is to first clean the area with an astringent or toner and then to prick the pimple with the tip of a safety pin.
(Boil the safety pin in water first to sterilize it!) I use the safety pin because it lets the puss come out easier without have to dig too deeply into my face.
Once you've poked a small hole in the tip of the blemish, wrap a tissue around your fingertips and squeeze the pimple from the sides.
It is best to try to press in a downwards motion - this expels as much of the nasty stuff as possible, without forcing anything back deeper under your skin.
Once you've gotten all of the white puss out, stop squeezing! If the pimple begins to bleed you've definitely gone too far.
Wash your face afterwards and apply a little ice if there is swelling in the area.
Make sure to follow a healthy skin care regimen and choose appropriate anti-acne skin care products to suit your skin type.
I recommend using a cleanser or scrub, followed by a toner or astringent, and an oil-free SPF moisturizer.
Practice caution when popping pimples and be nice to your skin!
