- Grants for Virginia undergraduate students are available on merit, need and nonmerit-based terms. Some grants are for Virginia foster children. Virginia also provides tuition waivers for eligible courses for senior citizens. The Virginia Military Survivors and Dependent Education Program provides tuition and mandatory fee waivers for children and spouses of military personnel who meet the program's eligibility requirements. This program is available in Virginia public colleges or universities. Members of the Virginia Army National Guard may also be eligible for tuition assistance. - Another grant available to college students in Virginia is the Virginia Part-Time Assistance program grant. This program helps part-time undergraduate students at community colleges pay for their educations.
- The Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant Program is available to those who wish to attend a Virginia private school for other than religious or theological training. Grant amounts are $2,600 for undergraduate students and $1,130 for graduate students, as of 2010. Health-care-related fields are the only eligible graduate programs as of the 2009-2010 school year.
- The Virginia Commonwealth Award Program is available to Virginia residents with the most financial need attending public colleges and universities in Virginia. Award amounts vary based on institution and available funding. The awards are renewable provided students make good progress toward their degrees. Another similar program is the Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program, which provides at least tuition to students with extreme financial need. Maximum assistance includes tuition, fees and a book allowance.
- The Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program is available to students who entered their freshman year of college no earlier than the fall of 2007. It provides $1,000 to students and another $1,000 to students studying teaching, science, nursing, math or engineering, as of 2010.
- The Virginia Department of Disability Services and the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services also offer grants. Contact those departments for more information.
