ChiliPad Mattress Pads
What is ChiliPad?:
The ChiliPad mattress pad was created by Chili Technology's co-founders Todd and Tara Youngblood. Innovation seems to run in Todd's blood, as he is the nephew of another innovator, Charles Hall, who created the water bed in the 1960s. And as you might know the water bed was the precursor of specialty sleep products which have steadily improved and made great technological advances.
The heating and cooling system in the ChiliPad lets the user regulate the temperature of the mattress pad from 46 - 118 degrees Fahrenheit to their own comfort level. It comes in different sizes to fit all standard mattresses.
ChiliPad Features:
Todd told me that the ChiliPad was now available in single zone (SZ) or dual zone (DZ) systems. While you can heat or cool your mattress pad with both systems, what I liked about the dual zone was its capability to let you heat one side while letting you cool the other if you wish. This is ideal for couples who have different temperature requirements.
The pad is made from Poly/Cotton fabric and a Polyester filling with a weight range of 500 lbs per zone. With higher weights it may not reach the maximum temperature ranges, but will still be functional.
The ChiliPad is ETL listed which is equivalent to UL testing.
How ChiliPad Works:
ChiliPad uses semi-conductor technology, where water passes by the chip and is cooled or heated to generate a wide range of temperature adjustments.
There are no wires.
As the water flows through the silicone tubing in the mattress pad it adjusts the temperature of the surface with an average power consumption of less than 100 watts per side. When Todd gave me a demonstration, I noticed that the motor made a quiet hum. I was told that its sound was under 20 decibels.
The temperature can be adjusted with dual remote controls, letting you go up or down in one degree increments in a range of 46 - 118 degrees Fahrenheit.
Using ChiliPad:
The ChiliPad can be used with any standard sized mattress. It uses about 80 watts under normal use, and up to 150 watts with peak usage. The company recommends using a mattress protector between the ChiliPad and the mattress to protect the mattress warranty.
The ChiliPad can be washed in a front loading washing machine, and should be dried at a low heat setting. To fill the tubes use regular tap water, but if the water is hard or has a lot of sediment, use distilled water instead.
A warmer or cooler sleeping surface may alleviate certain medical conditions. Temperature control may also help backaches or hot flashes.
How to Buy:
ChiliPad can be purchased from dealers and online.
It can also be purchased directly from Chili Technolgy's website.
