How to Use Lattice Panels for Privacy on a Deck

    • 1). Make a privacy screen using two or more lattice panels held together with rustic hinges. When using more than two panels to create the screen, affix the hinges so each panel opens in the opposite direction of the previous one. This will create a zigzag effect, helping it stand upright.

    • 2). Attach lattice panels to the deck railing to create a privacy wall. Secure them with deck screws or nails fastened every few inches along the rail. Attach the lattice to the outside of the rail; it will transform into a shelf in front of the lattice after it is installed.

    • 3). Plant annual or perennial vines around the perimeter of the deck. They will climb the lattice and provide a higher degree of privacy than the lattice alone. Choose fragrant honeysuckle or climbing roses if you want perennial flowers. Plant morning glories (Ipomoea purpurea or I. tricolor) and moonflowers (I. alba) if you prefer annuals. Morning glories bloom from sunrise through the morning hours; moonflowers bloom after dark and have a sweet fragrance.
