It refers to a skin infection that affects the hair follicles with bacteria & this can happen on any region of the body where there is presence of hair. The infected area contains white-headed pimples which can be very itchy, irritating & painful. It often looks unimpressive to display such conditions as they covey symptoms of inefficient hygiene maintenance.
Causes:
They are mainly caused by infectious organisms like bacteria, particular fungus. Deteriorated hair follicles lead to this infection. Also shaving or rubbing of worn clothes can make this happen.
Other causes include:
1.Consumption of certain antibiotics or steroids for long durations.

3.Using substances that cause irritation to these follicles like make-up, motor oil, creosote.
4.Wearing clothes that are tight.
Symptoms:
They appear like red pimples with a hair amidst it. There can be formation of pus inside it which can lead to irritation or itchy sensation. But when they get ruptured, pus & blood get drained. Superficial folliculitis affecting the upper portion of the hair follicle may show signs of itching, red & inflammatory skin & bumps filled with pus which grow around the hair follicles. The deeper ones originate beneath the skin & infect the complete hair follicle. They display signs like acute pain, a swollen mass.
Diagnosis:
A complete analysis of the skin, health & xphysical activities is conducted by your physician. Skin biopsy leads to the confirmation of the diagnosis whether the infection is due to bacteria or fungus or parasites.

4.Have shower with mild antibacterial soap after workouts or activities with chemicals.
5.Avoid scratching the bumps that leads to spread of the infection.
6.Do not apply oil on the skin since they trap the bacteria in the skin pores which are the factors giving rise to folliculitis.
