Wubbers, Tools for Jewelry Making

Wubbers is the weird name for a line of tools made specifically for jewelry making. They are made and distributed by Euortools. The product line includes three different types: baby wubbers, classic wubbers, and designer wubbers. I had a chance to test out the classic line including round-nosed, chain-nosed, bent-nosed, and flat-nosed pliers.

Tool Details

Each hand tool in the classic line has a soft, easy to grip 6 1/2 inch handle.

They also include springs so that when you squeeze on the handles and release, they pop back open. This means less work for you when you are using them for jewelry making. The nose of each pair of pliers was nicely tapered, especially the round-nosed pair, which is really important when you are curling wire.

They can be used with thin wire as small as 28-gauge or heavier wire up to 12-gauge, so these are pretty tough. In fact, they are substantial when it comes to weight, so they could work just fine for metal fabrication techniques or more delicate wire working.

Normally, pliers can range anywhere from five to 40 dollars. The cost of the classic line is around $26 retail for each tool, which I think is a good price range making it right in the middle.

My Thoughts

I think these are very well-made considering the cost and would make a good choice for someone who might want to upgrade his or her hand-tools but isn't ready to shell out a huge amount of money. The Wubber web site touts that these were specifically designed for jewelry making, and considering the feel of these and structure of the pliers' noses, I can see that.

My only issue with the classic line is that for me the handles seemed a little too long. So if you have smaller hands or just prefer to use smaller hand-tools, then the baby line, which has 5 inch handles and retail for about $23 a pair, would be a better choice.
