Acid reflux is the movement of acid and sometimes some fluid up the digestive system.
The acid is produced by the stomach lining to digest the food we eat.
Sometimes the stomach lining may produce a lot of acid which may find its way up the esophagus.
Usually it is caused by a faulty sphincter that joins the stomach and the esophagus.
Acid reflux disease also known as gerd has no specific symptoms.
The most common symptom is heartburn.
One can also be suffering from this illness without showing any one of the symptoms listed below.
Heartburn acidic taste in the mouth chest pains dry cough nausea and vomiting bloating and belching.
Note that one may have one or all of the symptoms mentioned above.
To actually know that you are suffering from the disease you need a doctor's word concerning this.
Some may have a lot of reflux while others it is just small.
To some people this condition affects there way of life and need medication.
To most people acid reflux symptoms are felt after a heavy meal, or when you go to bed too soon after a meal.
When the stomach environment gets back to normal, the symptoms also disappear.
In infants and children symptoms also vary.
Some babies cry uncontrollably, others refuse to eat, while others spit a lot.
You may also find that your child vomits aftereating.
Some children belch a lot too.
Its a bit harder to know whether your infant is suffering from acid reflux since they can't really tell you exactly what they are feeling.
The best thing is to be very observant and keen on your child's behavior.
If she has some of these signs it may be that she has the disease.
In older children you can ask them how they feel.
