Side Effects of Adalat

    Most Common Effects

    • In clinical trials, the most common Adalat side effects were swelling or water retention in the hands, feet or legs (edema); and headaches. Edema occurred in up to 29 percent of participants and headaches in 19 percent.

    Low Blood Pressure

    • Dizziness was experienced by 4 percent of Adalat clinical trial participants. This side effect can be caused by blood pressure dropping lower than normal. Signs of very low blood pressure such as lightheadedness or fainting should be reported to a doctor.

    Uncommon Side Effects

    • Side effects experienced by 1 to 3 percent of patients included constipation, dry mouth, fatigue, frequent urination, impotence, leg pain or nausea. Some people also had an irritated, runny or bloody nose.

    Serious Side Effects

    • Serious but rare side effects may require immediate medical attention. These include chest pain and irregular heart rhythm. Some individuals also experience depression while taking Adalat.

    Allergic Reactions

    • People can have an allergic reaction to Adalat. Symptoms include a rash or hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, throat closing, facial swelling and wheezing.
