Most of the items for making candles are available in brick and mortar craft shops.

The easiest way to solve that dilemma is to shop online for the items and compare rates.

You can also learn about the items from the online shop and if you find a really knowledgeable store clerk that can answer any additional questions, you've found the right store for your shopping.
When looking at the proper equipment for soy candles, consider first how you'll melt the candles.
You can spend thousands of dollars for machines that melt the wax, stir it and even pour it into the containers but unless you're selling candles by the gross, most home made candles don't require that expensive of equipment.
A double boiler works fine to melt the wax.
Some people use a Presto Kitchen kettle that runs about $25.
The Presto Company didn't make these for that purpose, but they work well.
There's a temperature gauge to help you maintain an even heat that doesn't scorch the wax or leave it too hard.
If you want to use a double boiler but want to make your candles in another location, use a hot plate to heat the double boiler.
Molds for soy candles come in all sizes and shapes.
The materials used to make the molds vary and may be metal, plastic, glass or latex.
Glass, while a bit more fragile, creates the smoothest finished surface but metal is the workhorse of the group and lasts almost forever.
Rubber and plastic molds distort somewhat as they cool and they wear more rapidly.
The good part is that there are more designs due to their flexibility, the candles come out easier and they have a wonderful matte finish from the mold.
Almost any good candy thermometer works well to check the temperature of the wax and a flat bottom whisk is ideal to mix the wax.
You do, however, need special dye for the wax that has no household substitution.
Candle dye comes in three forms, liquid, dye blocks and chips.
The chips have a multitude of premixed colors and are extremely easy to use.
The color is not as intense as the liquid and it takes quite a few chips for the same color.
The dye block is the same as the chips but more concentrated.
Because of their concentration, you'll shave a bit off at a time and consequently your colors vary from batch to batch.
The liquid is messier to add and frankly, some of them smell pretty bad too.
There is an issue with mess, particularly if you have children helping.
