- 1). Select the live aquarium plants you wish to add to your tank. Consult an aquarium guidebook for species that grow best in the environment you provide. Plants often appreciate different water temperatures or lighting requirements.
- 2). Remove the artificial aquarium plants already in your tank.
- 3). Replant the live specimens in the spaces where the artificial plants were if you want to replicate the fish tank decor you had with the plastic aquarium plants.
- 4). Use the fork or chopstick to make indentations in the gravel or substrate to create a new aquascape. Place the plant's roots in the gravel and cover using the fork. If the plant floats up, replant the roots and anchor with an aquarium rock or other decoration.
- 5). Place shorter live plants toward the front of the tank and taller plants at the back for a pleasing perspective.
- 6). Adjust the light intensity for the live plants if necessary.
