- The single overhead cam (SOHC) Lima Motors engine produces several amounts of horsepower at differing rpm. For example, the 5.3 puts out 79 hp at 3,800 rpm, 82 hp at 4,200 rpm and 90 hp at 4,000 rpm. The 1989 through 1995 models produced 100 hp at 4,600 rpm, and the 1996 through 1997 models put out 112 hp at 4,800 rpm. It has a 140 cubic inch displacement (CID), and a 3.780 bore x 3.126 inch stroke.
- The 1983 to 1984 versions used a carburetor fuel-delivery system, and the 1985 to 1997 models employed a multi-port fuel injection system. The 1983 and 1984 5.3's have a fuel pressure rated at five to seven psi, and the 1985 to 1997 engine's fuel pressure measured at 30 to 40 psi.
- Like the engine's horsepower, its torque varied with differing rpm. The 1983 through 1985 models with a manual transmission produced 124 ft-lbs of torque at 2,200 rpm, the 1983 to 1985 engines with an automatic transmission put out 126 ft-lbs at 2,200 rpm and the 1986 through 1988 versions produce 130 ft-lbs of torque at 1,800 rpm. The 1989 through 1995 models produced 133 ft-lbs at 2,600 rpm, and the 1996 to 1997's put out 135 ft-lbs at 2,400 rpm.
