How to Replace a Headlight in a VW 2000 Jetta

    • 1). Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent you from accidentally shocking yourself.

    • 2). Remove the two screws that are holding the black headlight casing in place, right in front of the car battery. Use a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3). Slide the black casing out of the way to reveal a small rectangular box being held in place by a metal pressure clip.

    • 4). Slide the metal pressure clip to the other side of the rectangular box by pulling it toward the engine, which will allow you to remove the plastic cover. Peel back this cover to reveal the back of the burned out headlight.

    • 5). Unplug the thick wire harness attached to the headlight at the base, then flip the second metal clamp toward you, releasing the bulb and allowing you to take it out.

    • 6). Toss the old bulb and insert your new one into place, then reattach everything.
