How to Replace Skate Bearings

    • 1). Place the skateboard on a flat working surface and gather all the necessary tools.

    • 2). Remove the axle from the skate wheel, using an Allen wrench tool.

    • 3). Remove the wheel itself, setting it carefully aside. Use a special skate key tool to remove the wheels. This type of tool usually comes with the wheels or with the skateboard. If you don't have one, you can purchase it in almost every skate shop.

    • 4). Remove the old skate bearings from the skateboard by applying pressure to pop them off. You also can use the axle to pry off the skate bearings. Note that you have to remove all eight bearings and replace them with a complete new set.

    • 5). Place the new replacement bearing into the wheel, applying just enough pressure to push it inside. Check if the fit is snug and fit. Repeat with the other seven bearings as well. If you are using spacers, add them between the skate bearings.

    • 6). Tighten the nuts as much as you can, especially if you are using aluminum spacers. If you have plastic ones, after reaching the maximum tightness, slightly loosen the nut. Use the Allen wrench tool for this part of the task.

    • 7). Attach the wheels, spinning them to check if they rotate freely and smoothly. Depending on the nature of rotating, adjust the axle if needed. Note that the wheels must neither wobble around nor be too tight and hard to move.
