- 1). Place the keys in the ignition of your Tahoe and switch the ignition to the "ON" position. It should be two clicks forward. Make sure the shifter is in the "PARK" position before turning the vehicle on. The 1997 Tahoe will not start unless it is in "PARK."
- 2). Place your right foot on the brake pedal, located to the left of the accelerator pedal, and press down.
- 3). Shift the gear shifter into the "D" position. This position is for normal driving. Let go of the brake pedal and press down on the accelerator pedal. This will cause your Tahoe to accelerate. The harder you press down on the accelerator pedal, the harder you will accelerate. When you are finished operating your vehicle, stop completely, hold the brake pedal with your right foot, and switch the gear to "PARK."
