- 1). Choose your slogan. You might go for something humorous and ironic, a strong political and social statement or a sentimental personalized message to give as a gift.
- 2). Select the letters that you'll need. Some types of iron-on letters stay on their paper backing during application; in this case, you'll need to cut out the letters that you want to use. Other letters simply peel away from a sheet.
- 3). Arrange the letters into your chosen slogan as you want them laid out on the sweatshirt.
- 4). Set your iron to medium-high, and let it warm up.
- 5). Rub the iron in a circular motion over the letters (and their paper backing, if using this type). Let the letters get hot, but don't burn your sweatshirt. Read the recommendations on the package as far as exact temperatures and how long you need to apply heat.
- 6). Let the letters cool. Remove the backing, if necessary, by slowly peeling it away. If any of the backing remains on the sweatshirt, cut it away, but make sure that the letters are sticking properly.
