- E85 fuel contains 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent ethanol, an alcohol made from fermented corn.
- As of 2009, there were more than 2,200 gas stations in the country offering E85 fuel. A state-by-state listing is available on http:www.E85vehicles.com.
- The government considers the use of E85 necessary for reducing the country's dependence on foreign oil, and helping the U.S. economy because it is produced from American crops. E85 also is good for the environment because it has the highest oxygen content of any fuel available, making it burn cleaner than gasoline
- The ethanol used in E85 does not necessarily produce less carbon pollution, but it comes from a better source. Even though carbon dioxide is released during ethanol production and combustion, it is recaptured as a nutrient to the corn that is used in its production. Burning fossil fuels releases more carbon into the natural carbon cycle than is normal since it takes millions of years to form.
- E85 stations are located primarily in the corn producing states in the Midwest.
