- "Bejeweled Twist," released in 2008, belongs to the "Bejeweled" game series by PopCap Games. The goal of the game is to create lines of three or more gems of the same color, but matches in "Bejeweled Blitz" are made by rotating the pieces rather than swapping their positions. While some of the game basics will be familiar to "Bejeweled" fans, "Bejeweled Twist" puts a new spin on an old favorite.
- "Bejeweled Twist" has four play modes, but when you begin the game, only Classic and Zen modes are available. The two modes are similar, but in Zen mode, it's impossible to lose; you can play for as long as you like without the game ever ending.
Blitz mode is unlocked when you complete Level 10 of Classic mode. In Blitz mode, you have five minutes to score as many points as possible.
Challenge mode becomes available when your reach the third rank in classic mode. Challenge mode is a series of puzzles divided into 13 classes. Here, the object in each level is to achieve a specific goal; for example, making five consecutive matches of yellow gems. - Starting on Level 2 in classic mode, bombs will appear on the board. Each bomb shows a number, and every time you make a move, the number decreases by one. If the number reaches zero, the bomb will explode. Bombs can be removed from the board by using them in a match or completing the level before the timer runs out.
After the bomb counts down, a disarm spinner appears. The spinner has six gems and two skulls, and if the spinner lands on a gem, your game continues. Each successive time a bomb detonates in the game, two additional skulls will appear, decreasing your chances of landing on a gem. When the spinner lands on a skull, the game is over. - You'll earn multipliers in "Bejeweled Twist" by making consecutive matches. The multiplier increases in increments; for example, you'll need to make five consecutive matches to fill the meter and obtain the "2x" multiplier. Twists that don't result in matches will break the chain and reduce your multiplier; the first nonmatching twist will take away all of the increments of your current multiplier level, and the second consecutive twist that doesn't result in a match will lower your multiplier by one.
- Making a match of four gems will award you a flame gem, which explodes and destroys the surrounding gems when it is used in a match. By matching five gems, you'll receive a lightning gem, which destroys all of the jewels in its row and column when it's used in a match. Matching six gems will garner you a supernova gem, which acts as both a flame and lightning gem when it's matched. These special gems will carry over from one level to the next.
A fruit gem is earned by working your multiplier up to 10 and filling your meter twice. When the match is made, a fruit gem will destroy all gems of its color.
