Ayurvedic Treatment for Cervical Spondylosis

    Ayurveda and Cervical Spondylosis

    • Ayurveda is a treatment that focuses on the equilibrium of three parts of the body, movement, change and growth. A disruption in one of the three causes problems in the other two. Cervical spondylosis is a type of arthritis that affects the cervical and causes pain in the lower neck. Ayurveda restores the equilibrium with respect to movement, and the inflexibility and pain that the arthritis causes in the lower neck. Ayurvedic treatment involves a three-part process, elimination of accumulated toxins, pacification of the entities that limit functioning and rejuvenation of the cervical tissue.

    Physical Treatment

    • Ayurvedic treatment that addresses both pacification and rejuvenation involves massaging the affected area with herbal oils like Mahanarayana taila. You should massage the affected area only two to three times a day. Be careful to massage the lower neck gently. The oil is intended to penetrate and loosen the stiffness in the neck, addressing the rejuvenation part of the ayurvedic treatment.

Ayurvedic treatment also addresses pacification of the cervical. Hot fomentation of the lower neck will help pacify the arthritis. Take a cloth and apply salt to the cloth. Warm the cloth, salt-side down, on a frying pan, until it is warm. Place the salt-side of the cloth against the affected area of the lower neck. You should apply this treatment about a half hour a day.

    Herbal Treatment

    • To detoxify the body and assist with rejuvenation, Ayurvedic treatment suggests various supplements that eliminate toxins from the body and assist with tissue repair. You should take a gum resin extract called, Guggulu. It should be taken in a capsule form, at most, four times a day. The supplement is a laxative, so you may need to reduce how often you take the supplement if you notice having an excessive laxative effect.

Additionally, you should consume the herb, Triphala, which is in a powdered form. You should mix about a teaspoon of the powder in warm milk. Finally, as a general approach, Ayurvedic treatment suggests that you should avoid sour foods, fried foods or bitter foods. Such foods can add additional toxins to your body, which will complicate your cervical spondylosis.
