- 1). Locate the size of trimmer line needed for the particular trimmer. Be sure that the line is new and loose on the spool. It should not be sticking together in any way.
- 2). Pull the outer cap away from the trimmer spool. This cap helps restrain the spool holder. Remove the spool and unwind any remaining line still in the spool. Remove any dirt or debris from the spool. Wipe away any foreign materials inside the trimmer with a clean cloth.
- 3). Grasp one end of the new line and slip it into one of the grooves. Locate the arrow imprinted on the inside of the spool for the direction in which you need to wind the line. Begin winding it tightly, making sure to wind it evenly from end to end.
- 4). Hold the spool tightly to keep the line from unwinding. Use scissors to cut an additional 4 inches of the line from the original spool. Feed the newly cut end of the line through the exit hole in the spool. Pull the line tight.
- 5). Slip the line through the inside of the spool housing. Place the spool back into the trimmer. Slip the head cap back onto the unit to hold the spool firmly in place. Test the trimmer to make sure the spool spins and the line feeds easily.
