New Nude Resort in Riviera Maya

The former Ceiba del Mar resort in Puerto Morelos on the Riviera Maya has been transformed into a new Desire Resort location. Desire resorts, beyond offering a nude-friendly environment, are hedonistic resorts, where couples are free to explore their sexuality. This addition to the Desire Resorts chain brings the number of Desire Resorts in Mexico up to three: two on the Riviera Maya and one in Los Cabos.

According to Fox News, residents of Puerto Morelos aren't happy with the change, expressing displeasure at the idea of nudists on their otherwise family-friendly beach. This small beach town is known for its laidback vibe and adventure options such as snorkeling and fishing.

Mexico is a generally conservative and predominantly Catholic country, however it is also large and extremely diverse, and attitudes toward nudity are varied. Remember this is the country where Spencer Tunick got the greatest turnout for a group nude photo shoot in Mexico City (18,000 people publicly bared it all for the photos). Of course that took place in Mexico's progressive capital, where gay marriage and abortion are both legal. Public nudity is prohibited by law in Mexico's federal areas - including the beaches - but there are some places where authorities look the other way (both literally and figuratively).

If you are interested in going nude on your vacation, Mexico offers several options, from luxury nude resorts like Hidden Beach Resort, or laid-back clothing optional beach hotels like Playa Sonrisa, and there's even an option for naturist families: Cabanas Copal.
