I found out about this campground researching online, and I tent camped there in June 2009.
Describe your camping trip:
Due to the large size of our tent (10 x 15), this campground was the only one we could stay at during the time that we went. I made reservations through Xanterra about 6 months in advance. Some of the tent sites are out in the open, but we were given a nice secluded site in the lodgepole pines.
Our site was close to the rest room. We stayed for 3 nights, and our stay was very relaxing. We were warned at check-in that grizzlies were in the campground the day before, but we did not encounter any in the campground during our stay. We did see a mother and her cub on the road south of the campground on the way to Old Faithful Inn early one morning.
Pros: Right on Yellowstone Lake and within easy driving distance to all the Yellowstone attractions. A marina and small store are close to the campground. Absolutely beautiful scenery.
Cons: Bison poop on the ground. We really had to watch where we were walking. Closest showers were 4 miles away at a different campground, along with a general store and gas station.
Nearby attractions: Lake Yellowstone, Lake Lodge, Yellowstone Lake Hotel, Old Faithful, lots of wildlife.
Further comments: The weather in Yellowstone this time of year is generally cold and rainy, but that did not stop us from thoroughly enjoying our trip.
