2008 Honda Pilot Vs. 2008 Toyota 4Runner

    Pilot Basics

    4Runner Basics

    • The Toyota 4Runner SR5 model

The 2009 4Runner features a four-door wagon configuration. It sits on a 109.8-inch wheelbase and measures 189.2 inches long, 73.8 inches wide and 68.9 inches tall. The SR5, Sport Edition and Limited models range a bit taller from 69.3 inches for the SR5, 71.3 for the Sport Edition and 71.1 for the Limited.

    Pilot Trim Levels

    • The Honda Pilot comes in four trim levels

The Pilot is offered in the LX, EX, EX-1 and Touring trim levels. All can be equipped with all-wheel or front drive. The base LX features an integrated trailer hitch, power exterior mirrors, 17-inch steel wheels and seven-speaker stereo/CD audio system. The EX is equipped with the same, plus fog lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, satellite radio, in-dash CD changer, fingertip audio controls mounted on the steering wheel and power driver's seat. The EX-L offers leather upholstery, sunroof, backup camera and heated front seats. The Touring package features a navigation system, backup camera, power liftgate, leather upholstery and 10-speaker premium audio system.

    4Runner's Trim Levels

    • The 4Runner is equipped with three trim levels

Trim levels SR5, Sport Edition and Limited are available for the 4Runner. The base SR5 is equipped with remote keyless entry, full-power accessories, tilt steering wheel, power driver's seat and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Sport Edition offers the same, plus an X-REAS suspension system from Toyota, leather-wrapped tilt/telescopic steering wheel and cruise control. The luxury Limited features dual-zone climate control, illuminated running boards, interior leather accents and heated front seats.

    Pilot's Power

    4Runner's Power

    • The 4Runner is powered by a 236-horsepower 4.0-liter V-6 with 266 pound-feet of torque. It also can be equipped with a 260-horse V-8 with 306 pound-feet of torque. The V-6 gives the 4Runner a gas mileage rating of 16 mpg in the city and 21 on the highway. A five-speed automatic is the only transmission available. The V-8 achieves 15 in the city and 19 on the highway.

    Head-to-Head

    • Both vehicles offer comfortable, roomy rides. The low torque in the Pilot's V-6 makes acceleration a bit sluggish, but the V-8 is an exceptional performer. The 4Runner's V-6 is strong. The 4Runner handles itself well in off-road situations, but it has limited cargo space. The 2009 Pilot starts at $27,695, while the 2009 4Runner begins at $28,640. Both vehicles easily climb to $40,000 with various option packages.
